Building Safer, Healthier School Environments 

In a groundbreaking move to safeguard student well-being, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has partnered with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to launch a comprehensive drug abuse awareness program across CBSE-affiliated schools in India. This initiative, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed on September 3, 2025, in New Delhi, marks a decisive step in creating drug-free educational spaces. The collaboration will closely integrate workshops, counseling sessions, and preventive strategies, aligning educators, counselors, students, and parents toward a common goal—keeping schools safe, healthy, and supportive. 

Following the MoU signing, a special awareness program will be conducted for principals, teachers, and counselors to equip them with skills to recognize early signs of substance use and implement effective prevention measures. The program focuses on empowering school communities by promoting capacity-building and strengthening support systems within schools. By enabling educators and counselors to better guide students, CBSE and NCB aim to foster responsible decision-making and resilience against drug misuse. 

The initiative doesn’t stop at awareness workshops. It includes dynamic interactive sessions, digital outreach, and counselor training designed to provide ongoing support to vulnerable students. It also encourages parent involvement and community engagement, recognizing that a multi-layered approach is essential for lasting impact. The NCB will play a vital role by bringing expert knowledge about substances and their effects, along with legal frameworks, to inform the school communities comprehensively.

Substance abuse among young people is a growing concern worldwide, impacting health, academic performance, and social welfare. With increasing exposure to drugs and alcohol, schools have an urgent responsibility to proactively address these risks.
