 Open Book Exams: A Paradigm Shift in Assessment 

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a groundbreaking move to introduce Open-Book Assessments (OBAs) for Class 9 students from the 2026-27 academic year. Unlike traditional closed-book exams that test memorization, OBAs will allow students to carry textbooks, notes, and approved reference materials into the exam hall. This shift aims to assess conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving abilities across languages, mathematics, science, and social science. 

The policy closely aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the new National Curriculum Framework, which emphasizes competency-based education. Piloted in 2023, the OBAs garnered enthusiastic teacher support but also revealed that students need guidance on using resources effectively and thinking beyond rote learning. CBSE plans to aid schools with sample papers, structured guidelines, and teacher-training to help make this transition smooth and impactful. 

Career Dashboard: Guiding Futures, Building Dreams 

Alongside the OBA rollout, CBSE has launched a new Career Guidance Dashboard and Counseling Hub to support holistic student development. Accessible to schools nationwide, this digital platform offers curated information on hundreds of career paths, aptitude assessments, and tailored resources for both students and parents. The Counseling Hub aims to integrate mental wellness into mainstream academics, providing support for emotional well-being and informed career choices—a long-standing demand from education leaders. 

This forward-thinking dashboard empowers students to visualize their strengths and plan for higher education, vocational training, or entrepreneurial ventures. CBSE’s commitment to career counseling marks a major step toward nurturing well-rounded, future-ready learners. 

Results Announced: New Trends and Gender Achievements 

CBSE has also released supplementary exam results for Classes 10 and 12, with data highlighting that girls have once again outperformed boys. New attendance and scheme guidelines are in effect for the 2025–26 exam season, with a mandatory 75% attendance rule for eligibility and enhanced support for students with special needs. 

Sample papers and detailed marking schemes for 2025–26 are now available online, giving teachers and students transparent tools for academic planning and revision.

CBSE’s latest updates mark a pivotal evolution in Indian educational policy.
